Former Walthamstowe Trainer Gary Baggs who trained 'Signal Spark' to win the 1987 Derby has passed away after losing his battle against cancer. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family at this sad time.

Welfare Of Dogs Important

The sport now spends approximately £4 million, or more than one third of its annual budget on welfare. In 2007, key areas of welfare expenditure included £1.7 million support for the Retired Greyhound Trust, £995,000 towards veterinary attendance at trial and race meetings, £490,000 towards track safety improvements, £220,000 in grants to trainers to improve their kennel and transport facilities and £173,000 for welfare research. An extremely proud Dave Irwin modestly passed on all the credit for 'Size Can Matters' narrow victory in New Zealand’s richest race, the Gold Band Finance Platinum Paws Final, to his iconic father Jack. Size Can Matter, winner of the Group 1 Perth Cup and Group 2 Queensland Derby earlier this year, added another chapter to the Jack Irwin legend when he led throughout to claim the NZ $135,000 to the winner Platinum Paws at Addington Raceway in Christchurch last Friday night.

Size Can Matter’s victory also continued the wonderful run of Queenslander Reg Kay and his partner Julie Edmondson, who race the high class son of Kay’s 2003 National Sprint champion Elite State and Queen Size. For more about this flying machine click Here
